After Kanye West infamously grabbed the mic from Taylor Swift during her VMA acceptance speech just over a year ago, Saturday Night Live (rightfully) bashed him in a sketch. Kanye shot back, writing in the song “Power”: “F**k SNL and the whole cast / Tell ‘em Yeezy said they can kiss my whole a*s…”
Kiss his a*s, or invite him back to perform. Ah yes, money and self-promotion, the great equalizers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC confirmed yesterday that Kanye will be the musical guest on the October 2 episode, hosted by Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston. It’ll be Kanye’s first SNL appearance since December 2008. Other notable SNL guests this year include Jane Lynch (yes!!), Amy Poehler and Katy Perry.
Since Taylor Swift forgave Kanye at the VMAs this year with her bizarre, shoeless performance of “Innocents,” and Kanye recently ranted another apology via Twitter, I guess it was the right time for SNL to make amends as well. But will Kanye ever really get rid of the Taylor Swift shadow hanging over him? If only he had chosen to steal the mic from a starlet who wasn’t so universally loved…
