Lil Wayne debuts glow-in-the-dark tattoos in new video
If you want to see Lil Wayne's latest tattoos, you’ll need to turn out the lights.
In the much-marked hip-hop star’s recently released video to accompany for his upcoming EP "I'm Not a Human Being", he shows off his latest glow in the dark tattoos – visible only with a black light, reports EW.
And he wants people to know that the smattering of glowing green stars on his face and the lipstick kiss on his neck are real.
In the behind-the-scenes footage released yesterday, he says, "I want everybody to know beforehand, when you see the black light and you see the kiss and the stars, don’t think that I got some s— painted on me. The s— hurt."
"The best thing about the black light tattoo is that when you cut the light on, you can’t see them," he adds.
Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon in October 2009 and was sentenced to a year in Rikers in March. He is expected to be released in November.
Black light or UV tattoos aren’t necessarily new – Club kids and ravers who liked to show off their designs under black lights have been around for the last ten years.
Jen, one of the owners of East Side Ink in East Village, told the Daily News that she doesn’t get too many requests for it.
"It’s one thing for someone like Lil Wayne to get one, he's got so many other ones but to only get one that nobody sees seems kind of stupid," she said.
In terms of safety, the reviews are mixed. While some shops claim that the UV ink is safe, others aren’t so sure.
"I wouldn’t touch it with a ten-foot pole," Mike Bakaty, owner of Fine Line Tattoo NYC in the East Village told the News." You don’t know the long term effects of that stuff."
"And you look like an idiot walking around with a black light over you, just so people can see that you have a glow in the dark tattoo," he added.
